Kenyan Man Detained in Oman After Avocado Export Deal Turns Sour

A Kenyan citizen from Trans Nzoia County is reportedly being detained in Oman following a commercial dispute linked to the export of 20 tonnes of Kenyan avocados to Dubai.

Tom Wangila Mukalukha, a resident of Sitatunga Ward in Cherangany Constituency, is said to have moved to Oman in search of better employment opportunities after leaving his job at a flower company in Kenya. According to information provided by his family, friends, and individuals familiar with the matter, Tom was working as a facilitator in the avocado export transaction and was not the owner of the business involved.

Reports indicate that the deal later ran into difficulties, resulting in Tom's detention in Oman. His family and supporters have raised concerns about his welfare, access to legal representation, and communication with relatives back home.

Friends, former schoolmates, and community members are now appealing to the Kenyan government to urgently intervene and establish the circumstances surrounding his detention. They are calling on the State Department for Diaspora Affairs, the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, and the Kenyan Embassy responsible for Oman to provide consular assistance and ensure that his rights are protected.

Supporters describe Tom as a hardworking Kenyan who travelled abroad to support his family and build a better future. They are urging authorities to investigate the matter, provide legal support where necessary, and help secure a fair resolution to his case.

The family is also appealing to Kenyans both at home and in the diaspora to share information about the case and support efforts aimed at ensuring justice and the safe return of Tom Wangila Mukalukha to Kenya.
